Faith in the Scriptures

Faith in the scriptures is one of the foundations of our religion. AllahTa`ala said which means: "It is not a virtue to turn your face to the east and west. However, actually that virtue is having faith in Allah, the next day, angels, books, prophets…. ” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 177) Rasulullah when asked by Jibril `alaihis salam about faith, he replied:" (Faith, namely) You believe in Allah, the Angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and have faith in good and bad destinies. " (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al Uthaimin said: "The book (commonly called the holy book) is the book that Allah sent down to His Messenger as a gift for His creatures, and a guide for them, so that they can achieve happiness in the world and the hereafter. (see the book Rasaail fil `Aqiidah by Shaykh Uthaimin)

The Coverage of Faith with the Scriptures

Still in the same book, he also said: "Faith with the holy book includes 4 things:

1. Faith that these books came down from Allah Ta`ala.

2. Faith with the names that we know from these books, such as the Koran which Allah sent down to Muhammad sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, the Torah to Moses, the Bible to Jesus, and so on.

3. Justification for authentic news, such as news that is in the Koran and previous holy books as long as these books have not been replaced or distorted.=

4. Practicing things that have not been cooked from these books, are happy with them, and submit to them, whether they are known for their wisdom, or those that are not known. " (Rasaail fil `Aqiidah)

Sources and Purpose of Decreased Scripture

All holy books come from one source, namely from Allah Jalla wa `Alaa. Allah Ta`ala said which means: "Allah, there is no God (who has the right to be worshiped) but He. the eternal life again continues to care for His creatures. He revealed the al-Kitab (al-Quran) to you in truth; confirmed the Book that had been revealed before and revealed the Torah and the Bible, before (the Koran), as a guide for humans, and he sent down al-Furqaan. Surely those who disbelieve in the signs of Allah will receive a heavy punishment; and Allah is Mighty again has a reward (torment). " (Surah Ali Imran: 2-4)

The objective of reducing the holy books is also one, namely the achievement of worship only to Allah alone, as contained in the words of Allah Ta`ala in Surah al-Maidah verses 44 - 50. (For a more detailed discussion, see the book ar-Rusul war Risaalaat by ` Umar bin Sulaiman al-Asyqar, pp. 231-235)

The position of the Koran among the Other Holy Scriptures

Al-Qur`an is the last holy book and the closing of the previous holy books. Apart from that, al-Qur`an is also the judge of the previous holy books. Allah Ta`ala said which means: "And we have sent down to you the al-Qur`an by bringing the truth, confirming what was before, namely the books (which were revealed before) and muhaiminan (touchstones) against those other books. ; So decide their cases according to what Allah has sent down and do not follow their passions by abandoning the truth that has come to you…. "(Surah Al-Maidah: 48)

The Qur'an is the longest and most comprehensive scripture in scope. The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said: "I was replaced from the Torah with as-sab`ut thiwaal (seven letters in the long Qur'an). I was replaced from Zabur with al-mi`iin (a letter with more than one hundred verses). I was replaced from the Bible with al-matsani (a letter that is recited repeatedly in every prayer meeting) and I was added with al-mufashshal (a letter that starts from Qaf to surah an-Naas). " (Narrated by Thabani and others, al-Albani declared his sanad)

Among other matters which become the specialty of the Qur'an from other holy books is Allah's guarding against it. Allah Ta`alaberfirman which means: "Verily We are the ones who sent down the Al-Quran, and in fact we really take care of it." (Surah Al-Hijr: 9)

Overview of the Torah

The Torah is the book that Allah sent down to Moses `alahis salam. The Torah is a glorious book that includes light and guidance. Allah Ta`ala said which means: "Verily we have sent down the Torah in it (there is) guidance and light (which illuminates) ...." (Surah Al-Maidah: 44)

The Torah that exists today - commonly referred to as the Old Testament book - means that everyone who is intelligent knows that the Torah is not the Torah that was sent down to Musa `alaihis salam. This can be seen from the following evidence :.

Their inability (both Jewish and Christian) to show the scientific sanad that reached Musa `alaihis salam, they even admit that the Torah was lost several times.

There are many contradictions in it, which shows that there has been much interference by Jewish scholars in changing the contents of the Torah.

  • · There are many scientific errors.
  • · And there is much other evidence.

Allah Ta`ala said which means: "Then it is a big accident for those who wrote the al-Kitab with their own hands, and then said it; "This is from Allah", (with the intention) to gain a little profit by doing it. Then a great Accident for them, a result of what their own hands wrote, and a great Accident for them, a result of what they did. " (Surah Al-Baqarah: 79)

Overview of the Bible

As for the Bible, it is the book that Allah sent down to Isa `alaihis salam as a complement and reinforcement for the Torah, conforming to it in most of its Shari'a, guidance to the straight path, distinguishing truth and falsehood, and calling for the worship of Allah Ta`ala alone.

As the Torah that exists today is not the Torah that was sent down to Moses, neither is the gospel that is now, nor was the gospel that was revealed to Isa `alaihimas salam. Among the evidences of the statement:

  • · The writing of the gospel took place many years after the appointment of Isa`alaihis salam.
  • · Disconnection of sanad in restricting the writing of these gospels to their authors.
  • · There are many contradictions and scientific errors in it
  • · And there is much other evidence.

Is it permissible to follow the Torah and the Gospel after the descent of the Qur'an?

The answer: You can't. In fact, if these books (Torah or the current Bible) are true from their prophets, then we still shouldn't follow them because these books were revealed specifically to the prophet's people and within a limited time, and the books the book has been cooked by the Koran. Allah Ta`ala said which means: "And we have sent down to you the al-Qur`an by bringing the truth, confirming what was before, namely the books (which were revealed before) and muhaiminan (touchstones) against those other books. ;…. "(Surah Al-Maidah: 48)

It is even obligatory for Jews and Christians today to follow the Koran. The Messenger of Allah -peace and prayer of Allah be upon him- said: "By the One Whose soul Muhammad is in His hands! There is no one from the Jews and Christians who hears that he will send me, then die in a state of disbelief with what I was sent with him, unless he is one of the inhabitants of hell. " (Narrated by Bukahri and Muslim)

That's a little discussion about faith with the scriptures. "O our Rabb, add to us faith, belief, wisdom and knowledge."
